Over 100 pools on Hilton Head before Camp

The person who draws it is the person on site.

Kevin Camp built over a hundred pools with Aqua Blue Pools on the island, and kept having to turn people away. Camp Pool Builders is the answer to that: fewer projects, and the same representative from design through supervision. There are no surprises, and projects come in on budget.

Kevin’s story
  1. Attention

“We are not trying to take on every pool project in the area so your project gets the attention it deserves.”

  2. No change orders

“We make sure all options and costs are discussed up front. We don’t like issuing change orders any more than our clients like receiving them.”

  3. No upselling

“We don’t up sell our clients into a pool that does not suit their needs or budget.”

“Camp pool built my pool and it was everything I expected and more. Kevin, who is the owner, is a perfectionist and was on site at every critical step to ensure the work was done with the highest degree of quality. This is my third year using the pool and I still enjoy the pool and the workmanship. Thanks Kevin.”

One Camp pool, dig to first swim

Walk the build the way Kevin walks it

Five stops, one supervisor. The same person who designed the pool is checking each of these before the next crew starts.

A new pool shell in a cleared backyard with an excavator parked behind it

The shell

Formed, dug and shot

The pool is formed and excavated, rebar is placed and bonded, then 4000 PSI shotcrete is blasted into place by craftsmen who cut and finish the interior by hand. Fiberglass shells are set, filled and backfilled in the same week.

Stone and tile

Coping, tile and raised walls

Tile, coping and any raised spa walls go on next, in the stone and finish you picked at the design visit. On Mulberry that meant a stacked-stone spa wall looking out over the marsh.

The deck

A deck that locks to the grade

Fiberglass pools sit two weeks after backfill so the pool and the surrounding grade lock into place before the deck goes down. That is also when the equipment is set and wired and the service-yard fence goes in.

Rock waterfall pouring into an indoor pool with flagstone around it

Rock and water

Waterfalls planned into the shell

Rock waterfalls, grottos, jump rocks and spa spillways are drawn into the pool from the first sketch, so they are plumbed and built with the shell instead of bolted on later.

Backyard at dusk with a lit pool, palms wrapped in lights and chairs on the lawn

Plaster, water, light

Plaster, then the first evening

Shotcrete pools are finished in plaster, filled and lit. Through plaster can be as quick as six weeks; a typical shotcrete project runs eight to ten. Then it is yours.

Two pool lines, and the work that keeps them good

Shotcrete and fiberglass each have pros and cons, and Kevin builds both, so you hear the honest version of each for your yard and budget.

Straight answers before the dig

More on timelines, costs and shapes in the construction FAQs and the design process.

It depends on the season, the type of pool and the scope of work. A fiberglass pool at grade with a concrete or paver deck can be done in as little as 3 weeks. A shotcrete pool can reach plaster in as little as 6 weeks, and a typical shotcrete project runs about 8 to 10 weeks. Elevated pools take about 12 weeks, and the largest turn-key elevated projects can run to fourteen.

Camp Pool Builders builds year-round, whatever the weather. The best time to start is before spring and summer, so the pool and the landscaping around it are finished by the first warm day and your family gets a full season in the water.

Size, the extras and custom features you add, the quality of materials and craftsmanship, the soil and whether the dig hits water or rock, and the warranty behind the build. Kevin goes through all of it up front, so the only changes to the project are the ones you ask for.

Usually, yes. Lot sizes have shrunk in recent years and Camp Pool Builders has become adept at building in tight spaces. Designs and estimates are free, so you can see what fits your yard before you commit to anything.

Fiberglass goes in fastest, costs less to build and uses less chemical and electricity because the surface is non-porous. Shotcrete is fully custom in size, shape and depth, with integrated spas and raised walls, and has the highest initial and long-term cost. Kevin builds both, so he will tell you the pros and cons of each for your yard and budget rather than steer you to one.

Kevin sets up a meeting at the property to talk about your interests and budget, learns what you picture in the backyard, and designs the pool around your lifestyle, yard and budget. The same person who designs the pool supervises it from start to finish.
